Arresting Citizenship awarded APSA best book prize in Urban Politics

Arresting Citizenship: The Democratic Consequences of American Crime Control by Vesla M. Weaver and Amy E. Lerman has received the American Political Science Association’s Best Book on Urban Politics award for books published in 2014.  Weaver and Lerman’s analysis of the “carceral state of American democracy” has been called “landmark” and their argument credited with illuminating the undermining effect of aggressive incarceration policies have had on basic privileges of citizenship among America’s urban communities.
