Gerald Jaynes is the A. Whitney Griswold Professor of Economics, African American Studies, and UrbanStudies at Yale University where he teaches in the departments of African American Studies and Economics. His current research “Black Agency and Public Respect: A Sociology of Memoirs” is a book length manuscript that provides a reinterpretation of the Black American experience during the twentieth
century.
