2013 William Pickens Prizes awarded to Cargill and Wanger

Ethan Mordecai Cargill and Emily Wanger are the 2013 William Pickens Prize winners for outstanding senior essays in the field of African and African American Studies.  Both students received a $500 cash prize.

Emily is a Political Science major;her essay is entitled,  An “Awkward Silence” – Examining Civil Rights Organizations’ Belated Opposition to Mass Incarceration in the United States.

Ethan is an African American Studies major; his essay is entitled, “The Black Arts Iconography of John Coltrane.”
