The Florida Room compresses the wide, deep, and volatile politics and poetics of the global south—its postcolonial conditions, its afterlives of slavery, its economic battlefields, its brutal racial divisions as well as its spirited racial and cultural imbrications and intimate entanglements—into a bold and lyrical exploration of the place known to many as “the Sunshine State.” Professor Vazquez’s critically-acclaimed new project fuses sound and performance studies with Latinx Studies, African American Studies, indigeneity studies, postcolonial studies, woman-of-color feminist theory and more.
