Nikhil Singh is Associate Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis, History and the SCA Director of Graduate Studies at New York University. His areas of interest include race, empire, and culture in 20th-century U.S.; black radicalism and US liberalism; U.S. foreign policy. Exceptional Empire: Race and War in US Globalism is his forthcoming book from Harvard UP. Singh is the author of Black is a Country: Race and the Unfinished Struggle for Democracy (Harvard, 2005), which won the 2005 Liberty Legacy Foundation Award sponsored by the Organization of American Historians, the 2005 Norris and Carol Hundley Award, Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association and the Washington State Book Award. He has written numerous articles on race and culture in the U.S.
