Areas of Interest: Black cinema, archival studies, fugitivity studies, existentialism, Black feminism, independent filmmaking 

Rachael Hatchett is a PhD student in the Departments of American Studies and Black Studies at Yale University, focusing on Black cinema. Her research explores themes of Black being, self-inscription, and interiority, using film as a medium to examine the complexities of Black existence, particularly through technological, existential, and fugitive lenses. Her recent writing has been published in the Journal of FIlm Preservation. 

She received her BS with honors in Radio-Television-Film and BA with honors in African and African Diaspora Studies from the University of Texas at Austin where she was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow.
