Sokeyra (so-kay-ra) Francisco is a third year doctoral student in the combined African American Studies and History program at Yale University. She is researching enslavement and freedom in the Caribbean with a focus on the island of Hispaniola/Ayiti in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. She is interested in how African and African descended people on the island enacted freedom and the registers that they chose to/could do so. She earned a BA in History and Peace and Conflict Studies from Swarthmore College.
